A room for a Princess.

  • children spaces

I grew up watching the Royal family because my mother loved them. And still to this day, I can’t help but pick up a magazine in the checkout line that doesn’t have them on the cover!  So when Kate was expecting baby no. 2, I waited and watched like the rest of the world to find out if the fourth in line to the throne would be a prince or princess.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born a few weeks ago and now that’s she here, I can only imagine what her nursery looks like. It has been said that Kate has taken on decorating of their 10 bedroom country house mostly on her own. So considering Kate’s classic style,  I think Princess Charlotte’s nursery might have a more traditional look, with a few modern pieces added to the mix.

I think Kate might opt for a more traditional pattern in the crib bedding, like this soft damask print.  She might then add a fun polkadot crib sheet to add interest. The use of a pale pink would make a great accent colour to bring the different elements of the space together. Something with a bit of bling is a must for any princess, so I love the idea of using a combination of sconces and a chandelier to layer the lighting in the space.  I also suspect that the little Princess will receive many monogrammed gifts and hopefully she will get some pretty wall art too.

I’m also envisioning the nursery walls, trims and all the mouldings (because I believe all royal homes probably have the most amazing millwork) to be painted out in a pale grey to give it a more contemporary feel. And the ceiling would be painted in the a barely there pink as the finishing touch in making it the perfect space for a modern little Princess.
